Canyon Lake and the surrounding peaks of the Mount Baker National Forest define this area of Whatcom County during the late twenty-first century. The landscape is marked by steep elevation changes, with Slide Mtn and Stewart Peak overlooking a complex drainage system fed by Racehorse Cr and Canyon Cr. In the southwest, the Middle Fork Nooksack River winds through the valley floor near Mosquito Lake and Jorgensen Lake. The dominance of the timber industry is evident through the extensive network of service routes, specifically the Porter Creek Logging Rd and the Anacortes Veneer Logging Rd. These paths, alongside the Mosquito Lake Road Bridge, provide essential access for forest management and local transit through the township sections of T38N and T39N.
