Chequamegon National Forest dominates this section of Bayfield County, characterized by a dense concentration of glacial kettle lakes and an extensive network of recreational trails. The northern reaches are bisected by the North Country National Scenic Trl, which winds past Trout Lake and Silver Lake before trending southwest through the timberland. Centrally located, Sand Lake and the Buckskin Trl provide access points into the more secluded interior of the forest.

The southern half of the quadrangle is defined by a complex hydrography, featuring clusters like Ducetts Lakes and a string of larger bodies including Wilderness Lake, Nancy Lake, and Claire Lake. These water features, alongside the smaller West Eightmile Lake, reflect the post-glacial landscape of northern Wisconsin. Surface transportation is primarily limited to forest roads and rural routes such as Halfway Rd and Webster Rd, which connect the scattered lakefronts and recreational access points within the federal forest lands.
