Gunnison National Forest and Rio Grande National Forest converge at the high-altitude divide of the La Garita Mountains. This topographic survey documents a transition in water flow where the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail winds through the northern peaks near Cañon Diablo. The landscape is defined by the headwaters of numerous drainages, including the Middle Fork Saguache Cr and Cochetopa Cr, which originate in basins such as Machin Basin.
