The eastern front of the Sangre de Cristo Range rises sharply from the Wet Mountain Valley in this survey of south-central Colorado. The high-altitude landscape is dominated by the peaks of the San Isabel National Forest, including the prominent Horn Peak, Comanche Peak, and Mt Adams. A complex network of backcountry trails, such as the Rainbow Trail and Venable Trail, provides access to the alpine interior where Venable Lakes, Horn Lakes, and Macey Lake are located.
