Tanglewood Acres sits at the edge of the Wet Mountain Valley, marking the transition between the valley floor and the dramatic rises of the Sangre de Cristo Range. The landscape is defined by the sharp divide between Custer and Saguache counties, which follows the high ridgelines of the San Isabel National Forest and Rio Grande National Forest. Significant peaks like Horn Peak, Mt Adams, and Fluted Peak dominate the topography, surrounded by a complex system of glacial basins containing Venable Lakes, Goodwin Lakes, and Horn Lakes. The drainage patterns are clearly etched by numerous creeks such as Goodwin Cr and Macey Cr, which drop over features like Venable Falls and Macey Falls as they move toward the valley. Trails and forest access roads like Rainbow and Venable provide the primary routes through this high-altitude terrain, connecting the residential outskirts to the wilderness boundary.
