Jefferson and the surrounding high-country settlements of Starr King and Jefferson Highland anchor this view of the northern New Hampshire landscape. The terrain is dominated by the Pliny Range and the Pilot Range, with prominent peaks including Mt Waumbek and Mt Starr King rising above the valleys. For family historians, several burial grounds are clearly documented, including Hillside Cem, Starr King Cem, and Forest Vale Cem near the banks of the Israel River.
