Griffith and Drake occupy the western edge of this landscape, situated along the transportation corridor that defines the interface between the Sacramento Valley and the rising slopes of the Cerbat Mountains. This 2021 survey illustrates how modern infrastructure, including the Frontage Rd and RR Access Rd, follows the historical paths carved through the Mojave Desert. The terrain is deeply incised by ephemeral drainage systems such as Griffith Wash and Black Rock Wash, which descend from higher elevations like Shingle Canyon toward the valley floor.
