Leland sits as a narrow coastal strip between the expanse of Lake Michigan and the northern tip of Lake Leelanau. This 2017 survey shows the town's dense residential grid concentrated along the Leland River, which connects the two water bodies. Local history is anchored by the Post Office and the Leland Catholic Cemetery at the north end of town. The landscape is defined by the sharp projection of Carp River Point and the coastal path of N Manitou Trl. Inland, residential development extends toward Indiana Woods, while much of the quadrangle is dominated by the offshore waters of Lake Michigan, highlighting Leland's role as a maritime gateway on the Leelanau Peninsula.
