The Mojave National Preserve encompasses a significant portion of this high-desert landscape, where the Clark Mountain Range transitions into the expansive Piute Valley. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes, notably at Kokoweef Peak and the namesake Mineral Hill. These peaks overlook a network of seasonal watercourses and desert springs, including Wheaton Springs, Wheaton Spring, and Mineral Spring. This topography was critical for early desert survival and mining interests in the region.
