1985 Map of Pima

About this map

The Gila Valley agricultural corridor defines this landscape, where the Gila River provides the vital lifeblood for a network of irrigation works. Significant water management features, including the Smithville Canal, Dodge Nevada Canal, and Curtis Canal, trace the contours of the valley floor, supporting settlements such as Pima, Glenbar, and Bryce. To the south, the Rogers Reservoir and various family-named watercourses like Patterson Wash and Cottonwood Wash punctuate the arid terrain. The northern half of the sheet transitions into the rugged drainage systems of Markham Creek and Peck Wash as they descend toward Rocky Flat. This 1980s-era survey documents the persistent reliance on complex gravity-fed canal systems that have sustained these rural communities and their local economy for generations.
