The high plains of eastern Colorado converge at the tri-county junction of El Paso, Elbert, and Lincoln counties on this 2019 survey. The small community of Rush serves as a central hub for the surrounding ranchlands, situated near the intersection of several section-line roads. The landscape is defined by the ephemeral drainage patterns of Steels Fork and the W Br Steels Fork Horse Cr, which carve subtle paths through the terrain. Evidence of early settlement and family history is preserved at Crescent Cem, located in the southern portion of the quadrangle near Pond Cr. A grid of rural routes including Whittemore Rd, McCurdy Rd, and Holtwood Rd provides access to the expansive properties that characterize this part of the state.
