1942 Map of Tunk Lake

USGS Topo · Published 1942

About this map

Tunk Mountain and Black Mountain dominate this landscape of the Maine coast interior, where numerous glacial ponds and ridges define the settlement patterns of the early 1940s. The southern coastal reaches around Sorrento and the Sullivan area show a network of small villages connected by the Maine Central RR, which skirts the tidal waters of Sullivan Harbor. Inland, the terrain becomes increasingly complex, marked by steep peaks like Schoodic Mtn and remote water bodies such as Narraguagus Lake and Spring River Lake.
