Appalachian National Scenic Trail winds through the southeastern heights of this Oxford County landscape, crossing near Surplus Mtn and the steep descent of Dunn Notch. This high-altitude terrain is defined by a complex network of waterways, including the Dead Cambridge River and the Swift Cambridge River, which drain the basins between peaks like Spruce Mtn and Black Cat Mtn. The northwestern corner is protected as part of the Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge, where B Brook feeds into the namesake B Pond.
