Big Bear City and its surrounding mountain landscape are the focus of this 2021 study, documenting the community at the eastern edge of Big Bear Lake. The settlement patterns here follow the floor of the valley, with residential development concentrated in Sugarloaf and near the Big Bear City Airport. This modern record reveals a high-altitude basin defined by seasonal water and conservation, where the dry bed of Baldwin Lake sits east of the main town center, bordered by the Gold Mountain Memorial Park.
