Big Shanty Mtn and White Cap Mtn dominate this 2018 survey of the Maine wilderness in Piscataquis County. The landscape is defined by the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, which winds through the northwestern corner of the quadrangle, crossing ridges between Big Boardman Mtn and the steep slopes of the E Br Pleasant River valley. This high-elevation terrain is dotted with numerous remote water bodies, including the large B Pond and high-altitude basins like Spruce Mountain Pond and Mountain View Pond.
