The rugged desert terrain of the Kingston Range dominates this mid-1980s topographical survey, a landscape defined by its mining history and complex geography. Spanning the Inyo Co San Bernardino Co line, the map illustrates an active and historic extraction district. High-altitude claims like the Jupiter Mine and Pioneer Mine are clustered near the Indefinite Boundary, where traditional surveying met difficult relief. The namesake Blackwater Mine sits on the western slopes, while the Excelsior Mine Road provides a primary access route through the shifting contours. This 1985 provisional edition uses field data from 1980 to document numerous operations, including the Snow White Mine and the Excelsior Mine, alongside a network of 4WD trails that navigate the steep elevations between the peaks and the Mesquite Valley.
