Rosillos Mountains dominate the southwestern portion of this Brewster County landscape, rising to the prominent Rosillo Peak. This 2022 survey captures a remote section of Big Bend National Park, where water sources like Bone Spring and the ephemeral San Juan Spring have long been vital markers in an arid environment. The terrain is defined by complex drainage systems, including Santiago Draw and Bone Spring Draw, which funnel seasonal runoff through the desert flats. Human transit through this part of the Chihuahuan Desert is traced by a network of established routes, notably Persimmon Gap Road and Marathon Road, which provide the primary access to these isolated peaks and canyons.
