About this map

The settlement of Bosque and its namesake Bosque Cem occupy a high desert landscape between two significant landforms in southern Arizona. To the northeast, the Maricopa Mountains rise above the plains, while the Sand Tank Mountains dominate the southern portion of the sheet. The region is defined by the ephemeral drainage of Bender Wash, which carries water through the arid terrain toward Gila Bend in the west.

Infrastructure in this area is sparse, primarily composed of the historic Maricopa Rd and E Old 84, which trace the path of earlier transit corridors through Maricopa County. The small outpost of Shawmut sits at the northeastern edge of the quadrangle, serving as a rare point of human activity in a landscape otherwise marked by section lines and wide drainage basins. This 2021 survey preserves the spatial relationship between these isolated desert communities and the natural barriers that have historically dictated travel routes through the Sonoran Desert.
