Bushnell Peak and Mount Otto dominate the high-altitude landscape of this 2011 survey, marking the dramatic elevation shifts along the eastern edge of the San Luis Valley. The drainages of San Luis Creek and its many tributaries, including Kerber Creek and Peterson Creek, define the lower-elevation drainage patterns as they transition from mountain gulches to the valley floor. This survey documents the intersection of rural county infrastructure, such as County RD-57 and County RD-LL56, with the natural contours of the Sangre de Cristo range.
