Stanislaus National Forest and Yosemite National Park meet in this high-altitude region of Tuolumne County, dominated by the waters of Cherry Lake and Lake Eleanor. The landscape is a network of named meadows and ridges, including Crane Meadow, Wilson Meadow, and the prominent Kibbie Ridge. Along the southern reach of the Cherry Creek canyon, local landmarks such as Kelly Flat, Plum Flat, and Joes Point indicate early points of access or habitation in the wilderness. Historical resource extraction is noted at the Andresen Mine near the Tuolumne River, while the N Mountain Lookout atop North Mtn provides a vantage point over the Yosemite Border. This modern survey records the footpaths and forest routes, like the Huckleberry Trail, that traverse the complex terrain between the reservoir shorelines and the cascades of Preston Falls.
