White River National Forest encompasses the rugged high-elevation landscape between the Garfield and Eagle county line. The terrain is defined by a series of prominent drainages and ridges, including the Cottonwood Divide and the steep contours of Glenwood Canyon in the northwest. Water management and natural springs are central to this landscape, as evidenced by Von Springs Reservoir Number 1 and Slaughter Springs in the eastern gulches.
