Big Bend National Park encompasses most of this Brewster County landscape, dominated by the northwest-to-southeast trending ridges of the Sierra del Carmen and the Sierra del Caballo Muerto. The terrain is defined by dry drainage systems and dramatic relief, including the prominent Dagger Mtn and the wide alluvial expanse of Dagger Flat.
