Dalton and the surrounding river valleys of Northwest Georgia are captured in this 1880s survey, showing a landscape defined by its ferry crossings and mountain gaps. The Connasauga River winds through the center of the sheet, served by numerous historical crossings such as Tibbs Bridge and the Old Chattanooga Ford. To the east, the terrain rises into the Blue Ridge, where named peaks like Potato Patch Mt and Cowpen Mt dominate the high ground above Spring Place.
