Bellasylva serves as a lone pocket of settlement amidst the high plateau country of the Endless Mountains at the end of the 1940s. The landscape is defined by the deep, dendritic incisions of the Mehoopany Creek and its many tributaries, including the South Branch Mehoopany Creek and Kasson Brook. These waterways have carved dramatic relief into the namesake Dutch Mountain and North Branch Mountain, creating prominent high points such as Flat Top.

High-altitude wetlands like Crane Swamp and Coalbed Swamp suggest the poorly drained glacial terrain characteristic of this region. For the local historian, the map preserves the location of the Fincke Cem and the Ricketts Fire Tower, markers of early 20th-century forest management and pioneer family history. The proximity of Schmitthenner Lake further illustrates the isolated, water-rich character of this part of Wyoming County.
