About this map

San Emigdio Ranch sits at the northern edge of the steep ascent from the San Joaquin Valley floor into the high elevations of the Los Padres National Forest. Produced during the Second World War by the Corps of Engineers, U. S. Army, this survey illustrates the transition from the arid valley floor to the mountainous southern frontier of Kern County. Water management and natural drainage define the landscape, with San Emigdio Creek and Pleitito Creek carving deep canyons through the foothills. The southern portion of the sheet rises toward the summits of Eagle Rest Pk and Brush Mountain, where the terrain becomes increasingly complex. This 1944 edition serves as a record of the region's topography before significant post-war infrastructure changes, highlighting the isolation of the Blue Ridge area.
