Elmira stands at the convergence of three Northern Michigan counties—Otsego, Antrim, and Charlevoix—forming a rural landscape defined by glacial topography and numerous small water bodies. The settlement itself is centered near the intersection of M-32 and Webster Rd, serving as a gateway to the surrounding woodlands and wetlands. This 2019 survey documents a series of distinct lakes concentrated in the eastern half of the quadrangle, including Lake Twentyseven, Pettifor Lake, and the interestingly named Porcupine Lakes.
