About this map

Fort Douglas and the University of Utah anchor the transition from the northeastern edge of Salt Lake City into the steep western front of the Wasatch Range. This 2023 survey illustrates the dense clustering of community and religious heritage sites along the foothills, particularly the concentration of burial grounds such as the Salt Lake City Cemetery, Shaarey Tzedek Cemetery, and B'Nai Israel Cemetery. The geography is defined by a network of steep drainages, including City Creek Canyon, Red Butte Canyon, and Emigration Canyon, which provide critical water resources to the valley below via the Red Butte Reservoir and Mount Olivet Reservoir. To the north, the boundary moves into the Sessions Mountains and the residential expansion of Bountiful, while the higher elevations are preserved within the Wasatch National Forest, where peaks like Grandview Peak and Black Mountain dominate the skyline.
