White Sands Missile Range dominates the northeastern section of this high-desert landscape on the border of Sierra and Doña Ana counties. The terrain is characterized by a series of drainage systems, most notably Gilmore Draw, Blackshire Draw, and Fleck Draw, which channel intermittent water across the arid basin. Evidence of ranching or livestock management is visible through the placement of water catchment features such as House Pasture Tank and Lyons Tank. The infrastructure is sparse, defined primarily by section lines of the Public Land Survey System and unpaved transit routes like Co Rd E076 and Co Rd E077, which provide the only access through this remote Chihuahuan Desert environment.
