The Sol Duc River valley and the headwaters of the Dickey River system dominate this part of the Olympic Peninsula as it appeared in 2011. The terrain transitions from the low-lying Maxfield Prairie and the settlement of Shuwah in the southeast toward the higher elevations of Gunderson Mountain and Nelson Hill. This area is defined by a dense network of watercourses, including the Middle Fork Dickey River and East Fork Dickey River, which drain the timberlands surrounding Dickey Camp.
