The high desert terrain of Mineral County is defined here by the arid drainage systems of the Gillis Range and the Gumdrop Hills. Central to the landscape is the broad path of Hu-Pwi Wash, which is fed by the N Fork Hu-Pwi Wash and S Fork Hu-Pwi Wash. These seasonal watercourses carve through the basin, illustrating the complex alluvial patterns characteristic of the Nevada Great Basin.
