The boundary between the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and the Rosebud Indian Reservation bisects this High Plains landscape, following the county line between Bennett and Todd Counties. The terrain is defined by a series of drainage systems, including Meat Creek in the north and the winding course of Coffee Creek, which cuts through the central sections of the sheet. To the east, the relatively level topography of Iron Shell Flat provides a contrast to the dissected creek valleys.
