1965 Map of Kapoho

USGS Topo · Published 1967

About this map

Recent volcanic activity dramatically reshaped this easternmost point of Hawaii in the mid-20th century. The Lava Flow of 1960 and the Lava Flow of 1955 dominate the coastal landscape, having buried large sections of the terrain surrounding the Kapoho Crater. Despite these geologic shifts, the map documents significant cultural and historical sites, including Kukii Heiau and the Old Hawaiian Canoe Sheds near Makaukiu Point.
