1982 Map of Kiholo

USGS Topo · Published 1984

About this map

Hardened volcanic activity dominates this coastal stretch of North Kona, where the Lava Flow of 1859 and the Lava Flow of 1801 have permanently altered the shoreline. At the northern edge, the small settlement of Kiholo sits along Kiholo Bay, near the Keanalele Waterhole and essential freshwater springs. The terrain rises sharply from Hou Point toward the massive cinder cone of Puu Waawaa, revealing a landscape defined by its eruptive history rather than dense urban development.
