About this map

Wagon Wheel Gap Hot Springs and the secluded Wagon Wheel Springs characterize the geothermal and hydrologic landscape of this portion of the Rio Grande National Forest. The area is defined by significant elevation changes, ranging from the high peaks of McClelland Mtn and Turret Peak to the dramatic rock formations at Palisades along the Rio Grande. A dense network of paths, including the Highline Trl and Roaring Fork Trl, suggests a long history of backcountry access through the drainage basins of Goose Creek and Leopard Cr. The presence of Hay Press Lake in the western reaches provides a distinct water feature amidst the alpine terrain, while Raspberry Gulch and Trout Mtn further illustrate the complex topography of Mineral County.
