Sierra National Forest dominates this high-altitude landscape in Madera County, where seasonal grazing camps and recreational pockets are scattered among the peaks. Evidence of the region’s pastoral history is found at Topping Cow Camp, Wagners Cow Camp, and the sites of Kates Cow Camp and Swartzels Camp. The area’s rugged character is defined by landmarks like Globe Rock and the high summit of Iron Mountain.

Settlement is sparse, concentrated at the Beasore Subdivision and Jones Store along Beasore Road. Water is abundant in the high basins, from Junction Lake and Iron Lakes in the north to the sprawling drainage of Chiquito Creek that bisects the terrain. Traces of early industrial interest appear at the McSwain Mine and a lone Prospect near the center of the sheet, while Chiquito Ridge marks the southern skyline.
