The Santa Ynez River valley serves as the central corridor for this 1942 military-derived survey, revealing a landscape defined by traditional ranching estates and burgeoning inland settlements. Large landholdings like the Juan Y Lolita Rancho and Alisal Ranch occupy the fertile bottomlands, while the established communities of Solvang, Santa Ynez, and Los Olivos are linked by a network of early roads such as Roblar Avenue and Baseline Avenue.

A significant cultural anchor is the Santa Ynez Mission, positioned just south of the main Santa Ynez townsite.
