Merriam Crater and the surrounding volcanic field dominate this portion of the Coconino National Forest. The landscape is defined by a dense concentration of cinder cones and distinctive geologic formations, including the prominent Merriam Mtn and The Sproul. These features are connected by a network of rural routes such as Leupp Rd and Co Rd 419, which navigate the high-elevation terrain between the various craters.
