Moran and the adjacent community of Allenville serve as the primary inland settlements in this Mackinac County landscape, situated just north of the Lake Michigan shoreline. Much of the terrain is defined by the dense wetlands of the Hiawatha National Forest, including the extensive Summerby Swamp and the intricate Pointe aux Chenes Marshes. These hydrologic features feed into the Pointe aux Chenes River and Moran River, creating a complex network of waterways that drain toward Poupard Bay.
