Moulton serves as the focal point of this 1930s survey, situated just north of the significant geographic boundary of Sand Mountain. The landscape transitions from the developed agricultural lands and civic centers in the north to the heavily wooded and mountainous reaches of the Black Warrior National Forest to the south. This transition is marked by the Basin Divide, separating the local watersheds of the Tennessee Basin from the interior mountain terrain.
