The Nez Perce National Forest and Bitterroot National Forest meet in this high-altitude landscape of the Idaho interior. Dominating the central terrain is the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness, a protected area defined by prominent peaks such as Mount Paloma and Cuneo Point. These heights feed a complex network of drainage basins, with White Cap Creek and Canyon Creek carving deep valleys through the mountain ranges. Settlement is nearly non-existent in this wilderness, though the name Cooper Flat suggests a rare level site in the otherwise steep topography.
