Onyx Peak and its namesake Onyx Summit dominate this high-desert terrain within the San Bernardino mountains as recorded in 2012. The landscape is defined by a network of drainage systems and seasonal washes, including Pipes Wash and Big Morongo Cr, which carve through deep formations like Old Timer Canyon and Little Morongo Canyon. Human activity is primarily limited to small outposts and recreational spots, such as the Pipes Campground and the private Bain Ranch in the northeast.
