Newnans Lake dominates the southwestern portion of this Alachua County landscape, its broad shoreline meeting the developed fringes of Gainesville. The eastern side of the lake transitions into the community of Windsor, where the Providence United Methodist Church Cem serves as a local landmark. The terrain to the north and east is characterized by a patchwork of wetlands and creek systems, including Gum Root Swamp and the headwaters of Lochloosa Creek.

Smaller residential pockets and historical land divisions are evident throughout the quadrangle, from the Copeland Settlement near the city edge to the crossroads at Orange Heights. Genealogists may find value in the presence of several rural burial grounds such as the Hatchet Creek / Pons Cem and Saluda Cem. The map illustrates a region where suburban expansion from the west meets the agricultural and swampy interior of north-central Florida.
