Owl Lake occupies the central northern landscape of this Mojave Desert terrain, its dry bed surrounded by an intricate network of desert washes and drainage patterns. To the west, the foothills of the Owlshead Mountains rise sharply, defining the western boundary of the basin. The southern reaches of the quadrangle are marked by the presence of Owl Hole Springs, a critical water source in an otherwise arid environment. This topographical study illustrates the sparse yet vital hydrographic features that dictated movement through this corner of San Bernardino County during the early 21st century, showing how ancient drainage routes converge toward the central playa.
