Human activity is concentrated at isolated points such as Fobes Ranch and Camp Joe Scherman, while the northern reaches show evidence of early industry at Maynard Mine. The transit through this difficult terrain is facilitated by the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, which winds through the San Bernardino National Forest. This mapping effort, updated from mid-century aerial surveys, provides a detailed look at the interface between tribal lands and federal wilderness during the late twentieth century.
