The High Plains borderlands between Wyoming and Colorado are defined here by a series of drainages and section-line roads cutting across the open landscape. Along the eastern edge, Gardner Reservoir collects water from Spring Cr, a seasonal drainage that winds through the central and southern portions of the quadrangle. To the north, the winding course of Muddy Cr indicates the natural path of runoff through the otherwise structured grid of the Public Land Survey System. The map documents a landscape of large-scale agriculture and ranching, where remote thoroughfares like Bauman Rd and Co RD 158 provide the primary connections across the Laramie County and Weld County line. This 2021 study illustrates how modern land management and water retention structures continue to follow the historic township and range divisions established during the early settlement of the West.
