Saint Martin Bay and the cold northern waters of Lake Huron dominate the southern coastline of this Mackinac County landscape. The shore is defined by the prominent Pontchartrain Point, while the settlement of Pontchartrain Shores sits just inland along State Hwy 134. Much of the interior is part of the Hiawatha National Forest, a terrain of dense woodlands and wetlands drained by a network of waterways including Nunns Cr and the Pine River. To the north, the small community of Simmons provides a focal point for local history, notably marked by the Simmons Cem. The map illustrates a typical Upper Peninsula balance between small coastal developments and vast protected forest lands, with isolated water bodies like Cedar Lake and Round Lake tucked away in the northeastern corner near Fish Rd.
