The confluence of the Little Colorado River and Zuñi River dominates the southeastern portion of this landscape in Apache County. This arid drainage basin, characterized by Hunt Valley and the elevated Potter Mesa, shows a reliance on specialized water infrastructure typical of the Arizona high desert. Numerous tanks, such as Metias Tank, South Tank, and Hutchinson Tank, are distributed across the terrain to support livestock and land management where surface water is intermittent.
