About this map

Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge dominates the western landscape of this Washington County coastal region, where the glacial legacy of Maine is written in a dense network of freshwater basins and granite rises. To the east, the settlement of Red Beach sits along the shoreline of the St. Croix river system, marked by Red Beach Cove and Lowe Cove. The interior is defined by substantial water bodies including Boyden Lake, Nashs Lake, and Pennamaquan Lake, which are connected by a web of drainage such as Western Stream and Dead Meadow Stream. Landforms like Mt Seeall, Trimble Mtn, and Carlisle Mtn provide significant relief overlooking the low-lying bogs of Rocky Meadow. Local history is anchored by the Fairview Cem near Stream Mill Rd and the scattered development around the village of Charlotte in the southwest corner, reflecting a landscape where conservation land and rural townships meet the tidal influence of Half Tide Ledge.
