Ryegrass Butte and the surrounding Sheepshead Mountains dominate this high-desert landscape in southeastern Oregon. The terrain is defined by a network of drainage systems and artificial water catchments essential for ranching and wildlife in this arid environment. Significant water features include Sheepshead Canyon Cr, Heath Cr, and N Heath Cr, which feed into several small reservoirs such as Inbetween Reservoir, Euglena Reservoir, and the North Heath Cr Reservoir. The southeastern corner of the quadrangle reveals a concentrated series of natural water sources, including Wildhorse Spring Number One, Wildhorse Spring Number Two, and Wildhorse Spring Number Three, clustered near Palamino Cr. Evidence of human infrastructure is sparse but notable, with the N Fork Ryegrass Creek Rd providing access to these remote reaches along the border of Harney and Malheur counties.
