About this map

The sugar-growing lowlands of southern Puerto Rico define this mid-century landscape, dominated by the Central Cortada industrial site and several large agricultural estates. The town of Santa Isabel serves as the central hub, supported by the Ponce And Guayama railroad and the Estacion Santa Isabel transit point. The agricultural character of the region is evident in the many named holdings such as Hacienda Florida, Hacienda Alomar, and Colonia Hawaii, which are stitched together by a network of drainage canals and rivers including Río Coamo and Río Descalabrado. Along the coast, the Caribbean Sea meets points such as Pta Cayito and Pta Petrona, with Cayo Berberia visible offshore. Aviation history is noted by the Aeropuerto de Santa Isabel and the Angaro de Aviación, while the northwestern corner contains a designated Military Reservation.
